Barbara Mullin's Progress Report
WheelFlex Progress Report
Administer: Justin L. Smith, IFPA
Subject: Barbara Mullin
Timeline: 8 weeks
[As told by Justin L. Smith]
Week 1
Scheduled sessions: Tuesday and Thursday;
approximately 2 hours of WheelFlex training/week.
Once I introduced the WheelFlex training
regime to Barbara, it was evident that she
suffered from noticeable limitations with
mobility on her left side. Like any certified
trainer, my commitment was to ensure that
Barb achieved maximum results from our sessions
together; therefore, I wanted to gradually
introduce the WheelFlex routine. An advantage
that WheelFlex embraces is its continual
versatility. I was confident that with this
type of adaptability, WheelFlex would transform
Barb from a basic beginner into confident,
advanced client.
With that, Barb and I started by incorporating
very basic movements with the WheelFlex set
on the lowest resistance. Our sessions consisted
of the chest press, shoulder press and bicep
curls. By utilizing these core movements,
Barb was able to introduce more movement
to her upper body, especially targeting the
left side. I noted that Barb was unable to
lift her arms above her head. Motion with
the WheelFlex was very shaky. By Thursday,
Barb commented that she was very sore.
Week 2 & Week 3
Scheduled sessions: Tuesday and Thursday;
approximately 2 hours of WheelFlex training/week.
During both the second and third week, I
incorporated more movements into her routine.
We continued to target the upper body (chest/shoulder/biceps)
by adding more styles of exercises for those
areas. The left side of her body still demonstrated
an obvious delay compared to the reaction
time of the right side; however, Barb’s range
of motion was definitely increasing. I noted
that her strength showed no difference, but
there are definite changes occurring with
the mobility of her upper body. Shoulder
press and biceps curls (left side) were unstable,
at some points trembling.
Week 4 & Week 5
Scheduled sessions: Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday; approximately 3 hours of WheelFlex
training/week
At this point in our sessions, Barb’s resistance
on the WheelFlex went from the lowest to
3rd notch resistance. What an improvement!
It was clear during this time that Barb’s
left side was now closer to being in harmony
with her right side. She could now easily
lift her arms above her head, as task that
deemed impossible four weeks prior. We continued
to isolate the upper body, but also introduced
stretching to her routine. By establishing
a stretching schedule, we ensured that Barb
would maintain the new found range of motion
that WheelFlex granted.
Week 6
Scheduled sessions: Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday; approximately 3 hours of flexibility
training/week
Our objective this week was strength and
mobility without the use of WheelFlex. I
introduced exercises that utilized exercise
bands, stress balls, and even 5lb dumbbells.
After five weeks of regular WheelFlex training,
Barb’s transformation was undeniable; hence,
in the course of the strength routines, Barb’s
regime was very efficient and left her invigorated.
Week 7 & Week 8
Scheduled sessions: Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday; approximately 3 hours of WheelFlex
training/week
Our sessions were coming to a close. We utilized
these last two weeks as a basic review of
all that we had accomplished over our time
together. I made sure that Barb knew the
proper motions of each exercise, so if she
continued without me she’d have all the tools
necessary. Barb’s motion was completely smooth
with the WheelFlex, unlike weeks prior when
she presented very unstable motions (which
once inhibited her from achieving maximum
results from the exercise itself).
Overall, I am truly impressed with the versatility
of WheelFlex. I watched this remarkable machine
bring more mobility back into someone’s life.
Honestly, how can you sum up a result like
that into words . . . A miracle.
